In the Netherlands economic independence of women has been stressed for at least the last 15 years. The result is substantial: in 1975 32% of the women living in the Netherlands were employed, in 1992 55% of the women were employed. More women earn a proper income. However, besides their jobs most of these women continue to hold the main reponsibility for keeping the house and taking care of the children. The domestic work men carry out is minimal in comparison with the work women carry out. Women from Gelderland observe an increasingly larger group of women who want to combine motherhood with a job. To realize this more support is needed: not just to create more possibilities for women, but also to encourage men to take more care taking responsibility!
