The Belgian artist and writer Eric Duyckaerts (1953), who lives in France, is known especially for his "Archaeological Research into the Art of Painting" and the emphasis he places on the role of the hand. Through this multimedia project, Duyckaerts presents himself as a scientist who works out a proposal for the development of a second thumb on each hand.

Using prototypes, video images and a scientific video- explanation, the artist shows how a second thumb could be formed and its possible consequences for civilization. His newest installation for the museum, La Barre de Scheffer, deals with the logic and worth of binarity, inspired by the proposal of Scheffer (in 1914).
