Dear Sisters,
I'd like to inform you that the first womens studies programme in
Zagreb Croatia has finally started this febraury. As you might imagine we are
very enthusisatic about this, particulalary because of the conceptual
link between feminist theory and activism and the fact that womens
studies will be a magic place for female and feminist awareness of
womens issues.
We would like to set up cooperative and supportive links with other
women and womens studies groups.
As a group of forty women, meeting huddled in the basement of zagrebs
ethnographical mussuem we so far meet three times a week. Of course
this is not in the regular University programme. We drink juice and talk
and always have our favourite coffee bar to go to afterwards. Our
topics so far have been those dearest to our different facilitators
hearts - linguistics, identity, literary criticsm, eco-feminism,
imagining the feminine, Chinese women's realities, video, violence
against women. Most of us facilitating are activists in these areas.
The feeling is really good.
In September this year we will continue with new topics - women and
political change, anthropology, women within the arts, nationalism and
war.
We would like to hear from our women's studies sisters around the world,
and to make connections* and weave webs of change together and spin
tricky things.
