NATIONAL CALL-IN WEEK - ARMS SALES TO LATIN AMERICA
---------------------------------------------------

The Latin America Working Group is holding a National Call-In Week,
February 3-7 to oppose the lifting of the high-tech ban. The major arguments
are that a change in policy would:

1) fuel arms races and regional tensions,
2) divert scarce investment capital away from
economic development in the region and hurt American
domestic export opportunities, and
3) undermine Clinton Administration efforts to promote
regional arms control initiatives.

Tell the President that you OPPOSE ANY CHANGE in U.S.
policy that would allow the sale of advanced military
equipment (such as F-16 fighter jets and attack helicopters)
to be sold to South American nations.

There is no military threat to South American countries
that justifies the sale of this advanced technology.

A change in policy would:
- create an arms race and increase regional tensions
- divert scarce investment captial away from economic development
in the region and hurt American export opportunities
- undermine Clinton administration efforts to promote regional
arms control initiatives

To participate in this call-in day call the White House
