Will the United States Keep its Promises in Panama?

DAYS OF ACTION TO DEFEND THE PANAMA CANAL TREATIES

February 24-26, 1997

---The United States and Panama are discussing a proposal to keep
U.S. troops in Panama after 1999 -- when the Panama Canal Treaties
call for them to leave -- to fight the international drug war in
a "multi-national counter-drug center." Panamanians are calling
for the United States to clean up environmental contaminations
generated by the U.S. military for the last fifty years. The
coming months will decided whether U.S. troops stay in Panama
and whether the U.S. abides by the polluter pays principle ----
