WRITING WANTED ON WOMEN RESISTING FUNDAMENTALISM

The International Fellowship of Reconciliation (IFOR) is soliciting articles=
=20
(maximum 20,000 words) for a publication on strategies women around the=20
world use to resist religious fundamentalism. The purpose of the publication=
=20
is to collect and share concrete examples of women's resistance to attempts=
=20
by fundamentalists to deny or undermine women's human rights. The strategies=
=20
may be acts of individual and/or collective resistance; from the grassroots=
=20
level to the international.=20

The publication, part of IFOR's annual "Patterns" booklet series, will=20
address the threats that Christian, Jewish, Hindu, Muslim and Buddhist=20
fundamentalism pose to women. Articles should include an analysis of why=20
control of women is on the fundamentalist agenda; cases of violations of=20
women's human rights by religious fundamentalist groups; an explanation of=
=20
the tactics and strategies women are using to challenge the fundamentalists;=
=20
and an analysis of how effective the strategy is or was. IFOR has a=20
particular interest in the role of religion in conflict and how this impacts=
=20
on women; articles which examine these interconnections are especially=
sought.

Articles may be submitted in English, French, German or Spanish, and should=
=20
be accompanied by a cover letter expressing permission to publish, with the=
=20
address, fax and email address of the author or authors. Deadline for=20
submissions is September 30, 1997. Articles that have been printed elsewhere=
=20
must be accompanied by permission to reprint from the original publisher. If=
=20
possible, the submission should be sent on an IBM compatible disc, in=20
WordPerfect 5.1 or Word 6.0 (do not send Mac).

IFOR, founded in 1919, has branches, affiliates and groups in over 50=20
countries. IFOR members are committed to active nonviolence, both as a way=
=20
of life and as a means of social change. For more information contact:=20
