FURTHER DETAILS The morning session on the working days was ISSUE oriented and the afternoon session on the working days was WORKSHOP oriented. 1. Issue panel and issue working groups The five themes for the issues were: - Young women and democracy - Changing patterns of consumption and production - Image and portrayal of women - Sexuality - Women, health and the environment Issue panel... The presentations and discussion were done in the large group, comprising a panel with a rotating chairwoman and a rotating rapporteur (both from the group), presenters from the group. We wanted everyone in that meeting to feel they had the right and the capacity to input. So we asked that everyone prepare in advance for discussion and planning on the five themes. Each person was also responsible to give a presentation to the group on a choice of one of the five themes. The process was an empowering experience. Through invited experts we learnt a lot about the road that was paved before us. We found it useful to think about a cooperation project together with Women in Europe for a Common Future. ...and Issue working groups Consensus-building, deciding on a cooperation action and planning how to carry our actions out were done in smaller brainstorming groups. The small groups arranged their own facilitation and note-taking, rotating responsibilities. Examples of some kinds of future cooperation action: a seminar or training course, a newsletter, a study visit, a public protest, simultaneous staged media actions, a report, a research, commitment to personal outreach and/or awareness-raising, lobbying to influence school curricula or public policy,... 2. Workshops Afternoon workshops were given on: - The IV World Conference on Women - Campaigning skills - Media Training - Mythology - Press skills In addition, we made a PRESS CONFERENCE to put some of our skills to practice! 3. Creative Writing Throughout the entire programme we had imagined a Creative Writing Project, with time set aside specifically for individual reflection at turning points as we embarked on this journey together. This was to be an outlet for free expression in a relaxed way, of impressions and ideas, feelings, whatever - content-related, interpersonal or personal. At the conclusion of the programme, there was an opportunity for exchange, sharing and review. 4. Coordination Coordination was be done by the group in an experience of direct democracy. Three persons per day aiming to rotate responsibility so that everyone got a chance, were designated by the group to keep charge of time-keeping, needs assessment, trouble-shooting, etc. A cooking team of 4 persons per day helped prepare meals.
