A SEED Gender Project and Young Women and Democracy
Programme
Current Affairs and Hot News: update January 1996
- Men interested in Gender issues!
Take initiative and let us know your ideas for the A SEED
Gender Project for next year!
- Women, Environment and Health: Economical Medecine or
Medical Economy?
There is already one campaign proposal for next year on
East-West cooperation on environment and health issues, aiming
to research the economical effect of precautionary medecine
versus the cost of hospitalisation and drugs in circumstances
where the society doesn't have a developed enough approach for
precautionary medecine. For example, the health consequences
of an environmental disaster like Chernobyl are
unimaginable... Almost, unless... research into preventative
medecine is done. How to prevent future generations from
serious disease? What is the most economical way to ensure a
healthy population? Prevention or aftercare? If you are
interested in the campaign, please contact us as soon as possible.

This weighty issue features three sections on changing
patterns of consumption and production, women and work, and
impact of international financial institutions. Check out the
review of the pioneering great gains achieved by the
International Women Count Network at the UN IV World
Conference on Women, and the hot news about the launch of the
Global Women's Campaign to "structurally readjust" the World
Bank and the IMF. The issue also features excerpts of Women in
Development reports in CEEC-NIS, as well as inspiring examples
from Central and Eastern Europe on the work for sustainable
consumption and production of citizen's organisations. Write to us now for your copy!

New Year's greetings and best wishes from the YWD team in
Amsterdam. Credit goes to Andre van Toly (andrevt@antenna.nl) from
Nijmegen, Netherlands for supporting us and working with us to
design our new logo and letterhead. THANKS, Andre!

- Newly Independent States YWD Report coming soon!
The Regional Meeting in Kiev,
Ukraine, 15-22 December 1995 hosted by Mama 86
(mama86@antenna.nl) had current conditions for NGO development
in different countries as the main theme. Two impressive,
concrete results of the meeting were plans for Regional
cooperation in a special issue in Russian language of the YWD Newsletter No. 4 on Women, Health
and Environment, and the establishment of route plans for one
of the Pilot
Speakers' Tours in Newly Independent States extending from
Murmansk, Russia to Central Asia.

- Next Young Women's Caucus...
